vitamins

20 Vitamins and Minerals

Even if you eat a healthy diet, so much of our food today is grown in nutrient-depleted soil that makes it hard to get everything your body needs. This energizing multivitamin is designed to fill the gaps with 20 vitamins and minerals (including A, B, C, D, E and K) in high-quality forms, made to be easy for your body to absorb.

botanical

Superfood Support

This female-specific blend incorporates some of history’s most respected superfoods for women’s health. Organic chaste tree berry, astragalus and schisandra berry extracts are typically more concentrated than just the herbs themselves, and powerful mushrooms like reishi can help your body stay in balance.

bovine liver

Wild Hake Roe & Beef Liver

An ancient nutritional powerhouse, liver is one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet. It can help support healthy detoxification in the body, and it’s full of vitamin A, B-vitamins, iron, zinc, magnesium, selenium and more. We source ours from New Zealand cattle. Roe, or fish eggs, are packed with protein and essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins — there are often more omega 3s in the roe than the fish itself. Our wild hake roe is sourced in New Zealand.

organic astragalus root

Organic Astragalus Root Extract

Rooted in TCM, this adaptogenic perennial plant is also known as milkvetch root and Huang-qi and is hailed as a protector against stresses, both mental and physical.

What is the complete list of vitamins and minerals in this women’s multivitamin supplement?
Vitamin A (Beta-Carotene)

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that comes from two sources: preformed retinoids and provitamin A carotenoids. These retinoids are found in animal sources such as eggs, liver and dairy products like whole milk, while provitamin A carotenoids come from colorful plant foods like fruits and vegetables. Beta-carotene typically leads the pack in most efficiently making retinol, a pre-formed, active form of vitamin A.

Probiotic-Fermented Vitamin C

Found mostly in fruits and vegetables, this essential vitamin is known for its powerful antioxidant properties and for its general benefits for supporting a healthy response to stress.*

Probiotic-Fermented Vitamin D3

Vitamin D plays a role in up to 2,000 genes and in every single tissue and cell of the body, yet 75 percent of American teens and adults don’t get enough. The immune-supporting vitamin D3 in this formulation is your body’s preferred form compared to vitamin D2.

Natural Vitamin E

A fat-soluble vitamin with many important processes in the body, this bioavailable, natural vitamin E also functions as an antioxidant.

Vitamin K (MK-7)

Vitamin K belongs to compounds called naphthoquinones and that includes vitamins K1, K2 and K3. Overall, vitamin K plays a strong role in bones and normal bone metabolism. Vitamin K2 also generally functions to ensure calcium gets to the right places in the body, such as the bones and teeth and not in the arteries or brain.

Generally speaking, vitamin K2 also functions to activate at least three proteins in osteoblasts, the cells that generate bone, while inhibiting the breaking down of bone. Vitamin K2 occurs in several forms, but two primary types are menaquinone-4 (MK-4) and menaquinone-7 (MK-7). MK-7 is a preferred form of vitamin K2, and the vitamin K2 in MK-7 form in Ancient Multi Women’s 40+ Once Daily is MK-7.

Fermented and Coenzymated B vitamins

B vitamins serve as essential helpers in the conversion of food to energy. And while they do not directly provide that energy, they do assist the process. In fact, the vitamin B complex includes eight water-soluble vitamins: thiamin, riboflavin, biotin, niacin, vitamin B6, folate, vitamin B-12 and pantothenic acid.

This well-rounded vitamin B complex offers individual health benefits but they work together in several ways. B vitamins are also water-soluble, so they need to be replenished often (if not every day) through diet and/or supplementation. The vitamin B-12 in Ancient Multi Women’s 40+ is in the preferred methylcobalamin form, the form that’s typically the easiest for the body to use.

Calcium

An organic source of calcium derived from organic, U.S.-produced eggshells, this form of calcium is body-friendly.

Iron

Traditionally a blood-building mineral, iron used in supplements sometimes tends to trigger digestive distress. Luckily, this formula utilizes iron that’s gentle on the digestive tract.

Magnesium

One of the most crucial minerals, magnesium is involved in more than 300 biochemical functions in the body, such as regulating heartbeat rhythms and helping neurotransmitter functions.

Enzyme-Activated Zinc

An essential mineral that’s second only to iron in its concentration in the body, zinc is often referred to as the “intelligence mineral.” Functionally, the liver also needs zinc in sufficient amounts so it can mobilize and release stored vitamin A into the bloodstream.

Fermented Selenium

An essential mineral to support thyroid health*, selenium is an important mineral in supporting women’s overall health.

Manganese

As an essential nutrient that’s usually tied to iron and other minerals, manganese plays a role in numerous chemical processes, including synthesis of nutrients like cholesterol, carbohydrates and proteins.

Chromium

A hard and brittle metal, chromium is a trace mineral needed by the body.

An adaptogenic berry utilized in traditional Chinese herbalism for thousands of years, schisandra berry is a prized ingredient.

Bone Broth

Organic Lycium Berry Extract

Also known as “wolfberry fruit” or goji berries, lycium berry has been used in TCM since about 200 B.C. Its benefits even appeared in “Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing,” an ancient book detailing the benefits and farming knowledge of the mythical Chinese emperor Shen Nong.

Organic Chaste Tree Berry Extract

This balancing herb is traditionally viewed as a female-friendly fruit and is generally used for female reproductive-system health support.

Organic Licorice Root Extract

An ancient adaptogen herb, licorice root has been used for thousands of years and dozens of purposes. In the Traditional Chinese Method, it’s used as a beneficial herb to support overall health.

Organic Ginkgo Leaf Extract

Organic Reishi Mushroom Extract

Known as the “King of Mushrooms,” the reishi mushroom is an edible type of beneficial fungus cherished for thousands of years. Also known as Ling Zhi in Chinese, TCM utilizes reishi traditionally and generally to support a healthy immune system.

Wild Hake Roe

One of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet, fish eggs are high in phospholipids. Fish eggs are an excellent source of protein and essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins. The Omega 3s are often higher in roe than the fish itself. Our wild hake roe is sourced in New Zealand.

What is TCM?

The Traditional Chinese Method (TCM) is a system of wellness that dates back more than 2,000 years and is still practiced today. It works on the belief that Qi (which loosely translates to “vital energy” and is pronounced “chee”) is essential for overall health. TCM principles adhere to the idea that proper Qi is needed to keep all systems in balance. This ties into the concept of yin and yang, defined as opposing but complementary energies. According to TCM, like Qi, yin and yang negatively affect your health when they’re out of balance. That being said, a primary goal of TCM involves balancing their equalizing relationship. One of the ways to do that involves using specific superfoods and herbs. TCM superfoods and superherbs aim to support the overall health of the systems of the body. TCM aims to create balance in the body as a whole to promote wellness and Qi. When the yin and yang aspects of Qi are harmonized and balanced out, a person typically experiences wellbeing.

How is TCM different than Ayurveda?

Both TCM and Ayurveda approach the body in a balancing way. They both address energy flow, circulation and balance in the body. For instance, that energy is referred to as Qi in TCM and prana in Ayurveda.

While there is overlap in some of the botanicals used in both TCM and Ayurveda, each tradition also utilizes specific plants and foods. Ayurveda was born out of India, so it often recommends traditional herbs and foods widely available in that region. TCM often focuses on botanicals and fungi more readily available in China. While TCM may utilize more animal products, Ayurveda does tend to recommend more dairy, like ghee, compared to TCM.

In essence, TCM and Ayurveda are different ways to approach wellness and balance from different regions of the world.

Who is this product intended for?

This product is intended for women in their prime looking for cognitive and energy support* and overall women’s wellness, all in the convenience of a once-a-daily multivitamin.

Even if your diet is filled with a variety of whole foods, it may still be difficult to get all the vitamins and minerals your body requires on a daily basis — and low intakes of certain nutrients seem to be a common problem among women, regardless of their age. Among other benefits, this is a multivitamin for women that can help address this issue.

Can I take this with other supplements?

Yes, you can take it with other supplements. As with any supplements containing iron, please be aware that accidental overdose of iron containing products is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6. Keep this product out of reach of children.

How is this different from Women’s Fermented Multi?

Ancient Multi Women’s 40+ is specifically formulated for women in their 40s and beyond, using traditional Chinese herbalism and supporting superfood ingredients and “body-ready” vitamins and minerals.

This line uses a combination of organic vitamins, fermented vitamins and minerals, enzyme-activated minerals, coenzymated vitamins, natural vitamin forms and specially selected ingredients to create bio-accessible nutrients designed for ease of absorption. This includes methylated or co-enzymatic B vitamins, brought to you in a more body-ready form to aid absorption.

Women’s Fermented Multi isn’t specially formulated for women 40+ and does not feature the TCM-inspired superfood and super-herb blend.

How is this different from the other Ancient Multivitamins in the line?

Ancient Women’s Multi 40+ is formulated to specifically target the needs of women in their prime, while many of our other products aren’t as age specific for adults.

Is supplementation really necessary?

For many Americans the diet consumed isn’t nutritionally adequate. In fact, approximately two-thirds of the standard U.S. diet is made up of unhealthy fats and refined sugars with low or no nutrient density — providing calories but not the amounts of vitamins and minerals needed, including vitamins A, B Complex, C, D, E and the minerals calcium, magnesium and zinc. More specifically, typical diets contain less than 80% of the RDA for calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, and manganese—and the people who are most at risk for coming up short on those nutrients are adult women and teenage girls. Here’s the truth: If two-thirds of the standard U.S. diets are coming up short on certain nutrients, then the remaining one-third of the average diet may not be so great, either, and cannot possibly fully meet a person’s nutrient needs. One great way to get more vitamins and minerals into your diet is to include nutrient-dense, real foods. Unlike our Standard American Diet, nutrient-dense foods can deliver a vitamin-packed and mineral-packed wallop. In addition to a nutrient-dense diet, some opt to take a multivitamin to help cover their bases.

Why aren’t your products labeled as being “dairy-free” or “nut free”?

Our products do not contain dairy, grains, nuts or soy; however, they are manufactured in facilities that may carry these allergens. This being said, all of our manufacturing partners are required to have and follow a thorough Allergen Program. The Allergen Program is to prevent the cross contamination of raw materials and processing of finished goods, where allergens may be present. Simply put, when it comes to our products and our suppliers, we follow industry best practices for full transparency and accuracy concerning our products. Therefore, where applicable for our products, we use the wording “made without dairy” and “made without nuts.”
